HOUSE REPUBLICANS PLEDGE RESPONSIBLE APPROACH TO TAX REFORM
Will Work for Responsible Tax Changes to Benefit Louisiana Families and Businesses.
(BATON ROUGE) House Republicans pledge a responsible, deliberative approach to considering tax reform alternatives in the wake of Governor Bobby Jindal’s speech announcing that he will “park” his proposed tax plan. House GOP leaders state that they will work closely with Ways & Means Chairman Joel Robideaux on options and stress their commitment that changes to the income tax structure protect core priorities.
“I am grateful to the Governor for putting tax reform on the agenda” said Representative Lance Harris (R – Alexandria), Chairman of the House Republican Delegation. “There seems to be broad agreement that while an income tax repeal or phase out is a desirable goal, it should be done in a responsible way that protects our core priorities” Harris said. “We look forward to working closely with Chairman Robideaux and our colleagues on both sides of the aisle to evaluate options for changes to the income tax” Harris continued. “We are committed to ensuring that whatever plan emerges from the legislative process reflects what is best for the people, families and businesses of Louisiana” Harris concluded.
“There are several income tax proposals filed this session by legislators in both parties” said Representative Joel Robideaux, Chairman of the Ways & Means Committee. “We will work to ensure that the proposals are heard in a timely manner and that the legislature is able to evaluate our options in a thoughtful, deliberative way” Robideaux said. “I want to thank Representative Harris and my colleagues in the House for their willingness to work together on this important issue” Robideaux concluded.
The House Republican Delegation is an organization devoted to supporting the work of the fifty-eight (58) Representatives who are Republicans. The Delegation has launched a new online community for members and the public at LAHOUSEGOP.COM.
